Foreword

To the many lovers of the stamps of Jamaica, this collection should come as a boon and a surprise, also a most useful opportunity to fill in some missing blanks, and to pick up much fine material to improve one's collection. Numerous honors and awards have been received, a Silver Gold medal at TIPEX (Highest in its class), a Grand Award at National Stamp Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1938, a Grand Award at Lansdowne, Penna. etc., etc. Many of the finest pieces are from the Hind, Ferrari, Trivett, Hopkinson, Clutterbuck, Nicholson and many other well-known collections. The large Pineapple blocks (which cost about half catalogue) and the rare "SER.ET" sheets were ex Hopkinson, as well as the 1½p block KG proof in blue probably unique. The 2sh. double (5 exist) and the unused Slavery stamp without "SPECIMEN", both came from celebrated collections. The latter cost Mr. Turner £110. The 1sh inverted center is another of the great British Colonial rarities and was very cheaply bought for $500. Perhaps the outstanding highlight of the collection is its magnificent covers, three volumes of them. Chosen with loving care and beautifully mounted as is the rest of the collection, they are quite possibly as fine a lot as exists in this country.
