FIRST PROVISIONAL ISSUE - VARIETIES
The first provisional issue was printed in the Kingston Penitentiary. All were on the same type of card,
with identical printed instructions and with a marginal decoration composed of repeated lozenge ornamentation.
To date the literature has not described any constant varieties however inspection of some Jo+ such cards
shows that there is a recurring variety with a 'gap' at the bottom left band corner of the frame.
This could indicate that the cards were printed in pairs and divided after the printing process~
alternatively the variety could have resulted from damage during the printing process
