A series of proofs were prepared by De La Rue cirea 1882, probably intended for use as reference or
exhibition specimens or printers samples. Proofs of stamps from fourteen different colonies exist, all
originally issued or re-issued between the Spring of 1870 aod 1874. The proofs are printed on thick
unwatermarked paper, are overprinted "cancelled" and are in close to the original coloms.
Proofs of six Jamaican stamps were included, being the Watermark Crown CC issue, minus
the 3d value (which was re-issued in January 1870) and the 2/- and 5/- values which were
not issued until1875. It is believed that only one sheet of each value was prepared.
