The inland postage rate structure was simplified and reduced to 2d per !hoz in January 1872. In June
J 878 this was revised to 2d per 1 oz. Consequently, the volume of inJand mail increased significantly and
the 2d Rose on Crown CC paper is one of the commonest stamps of this period in used condition. Over
nine million 2d stamps on Crown CC paper were printed during its 14 year life.
In April1879, the overseas rate to UPU members was reduced to 4d per Yz<>z. Pairs ofthe 2d were
frequently employed for this use. Larger used multiples are considerably scarcer.
