The One Penny Blue

One Penny did not get your letter very far in 1860 - the 13 miles from Kingston to
Spanish Town, to be precise. ''Local delivery" was extended to all post towns in "
1861, but it was not until 1889 that a Id colony-wide "national" rate was introduced.

~ Despite this, more 1 d stamps were printed on Pineapple watermark paper than the
other five values combined. Simply put, used by itself or in combination with
other values, the 1 d could be called upon to create a multitude of rates.
