The original "A 75" obliterator allocated to Savanna-la-Mar in March 1859 was lost or broken in late
1
1860. A replacement was eventually ordered from London in the summer of 1862. Whilst awaiting
this replacement, the Post Master resorted to several alternative postage stamp canceling measures,
including manuscript defacement and the use of the office date-stamp for obliteration pwposes.
