The original "AS4" obliterator intended for use at Mile Gully was mislaid during the redistribution of ~
numeral obliterators in 1862, leading to the temporary use of the office <fate.stamp as an adhesive
~ller. Over twenty years later, this practice was resumed, possibly because the replacement
"AS4" was nearing the end of its reliable life. This sea>od period, 1883-86, culminated with the
introduction of the new style "squared circle" combined obliterator and date-stamp
