Jamaica "Used Abroad"
Jamaican stamps can sometimes be found with English, Colonial or Foreign postmarks on them. The
English markings were usually applied for one of the following reasons: Owing to the Jamaica postmark
having been omitted in error or else being too faint to be legible, on letters re-directed upon arrival in
England and on "late" letters posted direct onboard the mailboats, after the post had closed in Kingston.
1861 (cJh May) quadruple rate cover to Great Marlow. Endorsed "Via Southampton",
with the 2 x 1/- stamps cancelled by the Southampton "723" duplex obliterator of
28th May upon arrival having escaped the island in an un-obliterated condition.
